Introduction
The Borradaile Challenge was set up to help measure a chapter performance in 14 different categories. At the end of the year each chapter is rated based on how they do in the Borradaile Challenge. If you attain at least 13 out of 14 with nothing below expectations then you are a "Maxwell" Chapter. If you attain at least 12-13 areas with only one category being below expectation then are ranked as a "Order of the Star" Chapter. If you only attain 11 areas to at least basic level then you are considered a "basic" Chapter.
If your chapter however, does not obtain at least 11 areas then are ranked as "Standards Probation" chapter. This means that you have to reach at least "Basic" level or your chapter will ranked the next year as a "Showcause" chapter. As a showcause chapter your chapter has failed to reach the basic level of the Borradaile Challenge at least once in the past two years.

Standards Probation
If your Chapter is standards probation then will one year work on the needed areas in order to reach basic level. The first step you can take to make sure this does not happen again to make sure your chapter submits all the reports on time and filled out correctly. Another step is to make sure all the financial issues are taken care of and that every member is paying there dues on time. These are the two major issues that chapters face when placed on Standards Probation. I encourage to browse this entire site for it is full information that will be beneficial to your chapter. However all the information in the world is not going to make your chapter succeed unless the members commit themselves to making the chapter better no matter what it takes.
Show Cause
If your chapter has been ranked as a Show Cause Chapter then that means your chapter not met the "Basic" level of the Borradaile Challenge for the past two years. It also means at the next summer program whether it be National Convention or Leadership Academy you should have someone there represent your chapter. Why? Because as a show cause you will have to literally show cause as why your chapter should remain open. You will likely present to alumni volunteers and some undergrad members from different chapters. IF they decide to keep you open you will need to follow the guidelines they lay out so that your chapter is presenting in front of them the following year. I encourage to browse this entire site for it is full information that will be beneficial to your chapter. However all the information in the world is not going to make your chapter succeed unless each individual member commits themselves to making the chapter better no matter what it takes.
