Alumni In Recruitment
Table of Contents

Alumni can serve several purposes for the chapter. Alumni involvement should not be underrated in its importance. The potential for alumni assistance is unlimited in its scope, and invaluable in its ability to contribute to a successful recruitment program. The following are some ways that alumni can assist the chapter’s program:

  • Recommendations – Legacies, friends, university faculty and staff, sororities co-workers’ children, connections to organizations such as high school sports, Eagle Scouts, etc.. (see pages 127-129 in the Appendix for sample letters)
  • Recruitment Functions/Events – Alumni can deliver impressive speeches or simply make a good impression to reinforce the life-time commitment. Successful alumni that the chapter has produced make good impressions on young men. Also, for summer recruitment events, alumni may be willing to host an event at their home, lake house, or place of business. This is effective when targeting a city away from your campus.
  • Financial Support – The Graduate Council may be willing to provide funds into the general recruitment fund or for a specific purpose like the cost of a brochure. Work with the BOG to ask for alumni support.
  • Recruitment Training – Alumni can be good resources to use when training the chapter how to recruit the right way. Part of your basic expectations is to organize and plan a recruitment retreat. Ask alumni that are effective recruiters to participate at the retreat. Make sure to ask at least one month in advance.
