Thanks for putting this link on the RL.
Flexible Approach
Our main focus is on the uniqueness of your chapter. GreekBill's proprietary software is engineered with a flexible front-end application allowing a fully configurable solution tailored to your billing processes. The GreekBill application was developed with the idea that a chapter should not be limited or forced to alter the schedule it needs to bill its members. Instead, we are able to adapt to your chapter's unique needs and customize our system so that the perfect fit can be accomplished.

Cost to the Chapter
In most cases, the overall net cost of GreekBill's services pay for themselves. With GreekBill there are no start-up fees and getting started is just a click away. Just fill out our no obligation rate quote form, and a rate quote, contract, and information packet will be sent for your review. If you have any questions or would like to speak to a representative do not hesitate to contact our offices at 800-457-3816.

Formal Billing Statements
One of the first excuses executive boards hear from members is "I did not know how much to pay." This is never the case with GreekBill. Once your chapter has completed the simple start-up process, your members will receive itemized statements similar to their telephone or credit card statement. Members can also securely access their real-time account status as well as view their payment history and all previous statements.

Variety of Payment Methods
With GreekBill, each of your members will have the option of choosing a variety of payment methods, including payment by check, credit card, money order, or automatic draft from their checking or savings account. Members on payment plans have the option of having their credit card or checking account automatically debited on dates their payments are due. Payment via credit card can be made 24 hours a day via the internet on our secured web server.

Real-Time Financial Updates
Each chapter has an administrative user-role allowing the treasurer and/or executive board secure access via a unique username and password to view real-time financial reports at anytime. These reports can be viewed on the web or downloaded in either Excel or PDF format for further use.

Collections Made Easy
In order to collect your chapter's dues, GreekBill will not only send itemized statements, but will also make phone contact with chapter members and send collection letters customized to your specific chapter's timeline.

Your Personal Representative
Once a client of GreekBill you will be assigned a personal representative for your chapter. This representative will be able to assist your executive officers and members with any billing issues they may have.

Customized Contracts
During the startup process GreekBill can create personalized contracts for all your chapter's billing needs. Having competent contracts that are understood by both the executive board and its members is a good step forward in formalizing your billing system.

Greek Bill Website

Forum category: Board of Governors / Finance Advisor
Forum thread: Greek Bill

Okay, so here are some things that are random, but I have wondered about them or have thought quite a bit about them:
The xi in the motto, when it was still officially lower case is often (even on the Maxwell Trophy) displayed without the hook on the top or bottom, making it look like an epsilon…is this because the writing of the Greek was done more in copying pictures than writing a language not many must have known enough to tell the difference? I have seen way too many mistakes in the motto, which is comprised of very simple Greek words. Also, why does the alpha of the first word appear to look like a "c" or a lunate sigma on really old copies of the Coat-of-Arms? Also, in Greek, the breathing marks and accents should remain on the now official capitalized words. And another thing: must the stars (mullets) all have shading, and if so, how should they be shaded? Should they have lines from the points to the centers to create five sections per star? Should they be nautical stars? Should the star at the top have rays coming off it all the time (resplendent?)? And, what does this mean, exactly:

"2. Chapter Coat-of-Arms. The arms of community shall be the same as the arms of
alliance, excepting that at the honor point shall be placed the initial letter or letters of the particular
chapter in Greek capitals argent (white)."

Where can those letters be placed in contemporary English? I have never seen this, but it would be awesome! Same for this:

"4. Chapter Seal. The seal of community shall be the same as the seal of alliance, excepting
that between the hinder-most hoofs of the two unicorns rampant shall appear the initial letter or
letters of the particular chapter in Greek capitals and the words 'Chapter Seal' shall be substituted
for the words 'Grand Seal.'"

Never seen this either, but where exactly do the letters go? Not to mention, why does the grand seal differ in print than it does on the stamped stickers placed on charters or awards? Plus, why can't we find any better copies of the original Coat-of-Arms, because my chapter's original charter has a very detailed one that looks much nicer. And what were the colors of the original Coat-of-Arms? Also have we abandoned putting patterns in black and white Coats-of-Arms to distinguish color? And don't answer publicly here, but please e-mail me if you know, what does the jar that the sphinx is holding represent? Plus, why does the turn second to the left on the National site resemble an end turn instead of a middle turn? And can the laurel wreath vert be gold instead of green->vert??? Like up there, in this page's header's left side… Another thing, do the curls of the banner with the motto go one in-front and one in-back of the shield? That would be pretty cool! Plus, I have noticed in From Old Main to a New Century, some of the fraternity's ritual secrets are possibly given away through studying of the Phrenocon Coat-of-Arms and its description in the text, if you call what is there "giving it away." Maybe not.

Okay, so I was reading an old edition of the Laurel, and the back cover had Phi Kappa Tau jewelery, including the plain badge, the chased one, the one with pearls and the diamond/zircon, plus larger copies of the badge, sister badges, which were smaller and for wives or girl friends, recognition pins for lapels, which were tiny gold pins depicting the original "Coat-of-Arms, alumni charms, which were essentially badges with loops for chains. Why can't we bring some of those things no longer offered back? I do not believe that they caused harm or were that bad of sellers. Another thing: does anybody have a picture of the badge for the now defunct "Little Sisters of Phi Kappa Tau?" I only have what the old Ritual for their initiation states. Also, is there a picture of the (I think it is the) Past President pin? I think it is a diamond in shape with a gem of some sort at the top, but a picture would be amazing! And is there any officiallity to chapter guard designs? Can they have items besides diamonds or pearls embedded in them? Are dangles recognized officially? I am assuming not. Okay, last thing: is it strictly forbidden to wear letters of a founding chapter if it came before Phi Kappa Tau (that would be Tau Gamma Psi for me)? Even if just in tribute or honor to those of the past? Okay, this is the last thing: are the older badges still recognized as official, even if no longer made in such ways—the oval center badge, or the Phrenocon badge, or even Alpha chapter's local badge for Phi Kappa Tau?

Okay, to add (now a later date than the previous paragraphs), shouldn't we reinstate the printed Phi Kappa Tau Songbook? I think this was great, and it presents clean alternatives to some of the more unfortunate tunes adopted by many chapters. The songbook, however, needs new songs written by current undergraduates and other LIVING brothers. Regardless, I think that the next printed edition should include all of the songs on record, including the ones eliminated from previous editions. It should have the sorority songs as well as the selections from the other fraternities, and these sections should also be updated. Okay, that is all for now.

Now, a whiles later, here's a question: is Sidelights still considered as a brothers-only publication, should an issue be authored and sent out?

Share y'all's thoughts PLEASE!!!

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: Hmm...Notes of Interest

Although the Link is becoming stronger—as we would all like it to be, I have heard from various chapters that Academy and Convention should recontinue giving brothers in attendence printed contact information, at least to use as a checklist of sorts. As much as the Link can be used to find brothers, on-the-spot identification and "checking-off" is an awesome and trusted precurser to a brotherly relationship that can then be extended more easily over the Link.

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: National Convention 2008

When I was associate I remember that I was never taught proper table manners. You think you don't need it but if you ever find yourself eating at nice restaurant or banquet you will need to know what to do. So here is a video you can watch personally or you show it your chapter brothers/associate member so that if they do find themselves eating at nice place they will be able to represent the chapter in proper manner.

Oh yea its kinda old but it does the trick
have fun

Forum category: Undergradaute Officers / Membership Orientation Officer
Forum thread: Table Manners

All, I recently had a house corporation officer write me to ask about the Phi Kappa Tau Housing Fund. I'm posting my email response below. The Housing Fund chair is Rick Keltner. He is a member fo the National Council and can be found on The Link. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post them here or to email Rick or me directly. Thanks!:

The Housing Fund is a loan fund operated by the National Fraternity. At our Convention in 1993, the Convention passed a motion to charge undergraduates an annual fee of $5 to go into a housing fund that could eventually be used to fund renovations or new construction.

Since then, the fee was raised to $15 (I'm not sure when they raised it, but I'm sure it was soon after they realized that $5 per man per year would only generate $15K a year). We currently have about $700K in assets (cash (investments) and outstanding loans).

The fund grows by about $45K a year through undergraduate fee assessment. The interest on the fund is "set aside" for educational programming - a provision of the IRS that allows us to exempt this non-dues revenue from income tax.

More information on housing can be found on The Link at http://link.phikappatau.org/content.aspx?item=The%20Link/Content/Chapter%20Management/Properties.xml

Forum category: Housing Corporation / House Loans and Funding
Forum thread: Housing Fund questions

This study shows several alarming results as it relates to the variety of campus organizations that reported hazing, the knowledge of the advisors, and the manner in which students either react or tolerate the behavior.

After reading the below - please share your thoughts in this discussion thread.

Newsday.com
Study: Haz
ing Still a Problem on Campus
By DAVID SHARP

Associated Press Writer

11:31 AM EDT, March 11, 2008

PORTLAND, Maine

Virtually every college bans hazing, but more than half of college students belonging to campus organizations say they have experienced it in places from the glee club to the fraternity house, according to a new study.

Academic clubs and social and cultural organizations all haze new members, students told professors Elizabeth Allan and Mary Madden from the University of Maine's College of Education and Human Development.

"It's far more widespread than many people would've assumed," Allan said.

The professors' National Study of Student Hazing was based on responses from 11,482 students at 53 institutions. It was released Tuesday at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators meeting in Boston.

Among students who belonged to campus organizations, 31 percent of men and 23 percent of women reported participating in drinking games, and 17 percent of men and 9 percent of women reported drinking to the point of getting sick or passing out.

The professors, based in Orono, said previous research on hazing has focused on Greek organizations and athletic teams. Their research was based on an online survey of students who were chosen at random by college administrators. The team also interviewed more than 300 students.

No one else has undertaken such an ambitious study of hazing in higher education, said Norm Pollard, the dean of students at Alfred University and the leader of a national study of hazing among student athletes in 1999. Pollard was an adviser for the study.

The study found the highest rates of hazing (74 percent) among members of varsity athletic teams and fraternities and sororities (73 percent). But rates also were high for participants in club sports (64 percent) and performing arts organizations (56 percent).

Twenty-eight percent of participants in academic clubs and 20 percent of honor societies members reported being hazed, the study said.

A quarter of students who were hazed believed their organization's coach or adviser knew about it, and a quarter also reported being hazed in a public space on campus. Furthermore, 47 percent of respondents arrived at college having already experienced at least one hazing incident in high school.

Hazing has been banned by 44 states and virtually all colleges and universities. In fact, half of those who reported experiences that constitute being hazed said they were aware of anti-hazing policies, the study said.

However, nine out of 10 students who reported being subjected to behavior that constitutes hazing didn't believe they had been hazed, the professors said.

Activities the survey counted as hazing were skits or roasts where members are humiliated, singing or chanting in public, wearing embarrassing clothing, being yelled or cursed at, enduring harsh weather without proper clothing, drinking large amounts of alcohol, and watching or engaging in sex acts. As campuses have cracked down on alcohol, pledges or new members also sometimes have been forced to drink large quantities of water or milk, sometimes with deadly results, Allan said.

Gary Powell, a hazing expert in Cincinnati, said defining hazing is a potential problem with any study. Drinking to excess and physical abuse clearly are hazing, but the line is blurry for activities that don't put people at risk of injury, he said.

Many people define hazing the way Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart famously defined pornography: '"I know it when I see it,"' said Powell, who dealt with liability issues while working for a law firm that represents fraternities and sororities.

Allan and Madden didn't try to recommend solutions, but Madden said it's clear there's plenty of work to be done when a strong majority of students who are hazed don't realize it.

"They'll call it something else, team-building, or say 'I gave my permission to be treated this way.' It's a challenge for college administrators," Pollard said.

Copyright 2008 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
To add videos to your Link profile, you need the embed code that is easily found on websites like YouTube (www.youtube.com). You can find almost anything at this site by searching a subject, and once you’ve found the video you want, there is an option to “Embed” the video onto a website. (On YouTube, it’s found on the right-hand side under the video information in a gray box. It looks like a code or even a URL.) You should copy that text and then paste it wherever you want it to go on your profile. For example, if I wanted a video on my profile under “Interests” in the “Personal Information” box, I would go to “Edit My Profile,” “My Profile,” “Personal” and then paste the text/code in the “Interests” box.

Once you've tried to upload videos to your Link profile, it's fairly easy. If anyone has any tips or questions, please post!

Forum category: Forum Discussion / The Link Discussion
Forum thread: Adding videos to your profile

This forum is new so don't expect any Chicago people to be on here yet, but I'm looking towards the future. I know we don't have any chapters at Chicago schools, but I've heard that we have a lot of Alumni who live in Chicago especially right after they graduate.

Chicago Alumni Club used to be the strongest of all of our Alumni Clubs, hell they paid for the original Maxwell Trophy. Just seeing who is out their and what the interest is.

Also, I can try to give any help I can to recent grads who may need some help scouting out jobs in the city.

Forum category: Alumni Clubs and Groups / Chicago
Forum thread: Chicago Alumni

Eric,
You're right, there isn't a list of National Council members on the Resource Library. You can get contact information for National Council members on The Link under "Contact Us." If you're looking to send a mass e-mail, I think the best way to do that would be to copy and paste the e-mail addresses into one e-mail. There is a National Council group page on The Link but not all NC members are on it (some NC members are not on The Link at all).

I hope I answered your question. Let me know if you have any more!

Lane Shetzer
Communication Coordinator

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: National Council

Brian,

You can find press release resources under the secretary position or go here https://phikappatau.wikidot.com/communication:news-release-pointers.

I would recommend using the search feature when your not quite certain where something is. Also, the resource library is always growing and changing. If a resource does not exist here please help us to create it or make a forum post on the topic like you did.

Also always remember to check the for File attachments at the bottom of each page. Their is a press release word documenta t the bottom of the News Release Pointers.

Garret Fontes, Long Beach Beta Psi

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: Old files

They basically function as a member of the National Council except with a shortened term. The best person to ask would be one of the current undergraduate national councilors. you can access their contact information back on The Link.

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: National Convention 2008

I'm also planning on attending. I do have a question about something, however. What are the duties or obligations of the resident council members of the National Council? This is somewhat vague:

4. Election of Resident Council Members to National Council. At each regular
National Convention, three (3) Resident Council members shall be elected to the National
Council for a term of two (2) years. To be eligible, a Resident Council member shall have
at least one (1) year remaining as an undergraduate student (summers excluded) at the time
of his election. If during a term a Resident Council seat of the National Council is vacated
for any reason, the National Council shall elect a successor for the remainder of the term.
In the event of postponement or suspension of the National Convention, the terms of the
Resident Councilors of the National Council shall be proportionately extended. The
election of the Resident Councilors shall follow the election of the Graduate Councilors.

Thanks, for anyone who can be of help…

Forum category: Forum Discussion / General Discussion
Forum thread: National Convention 2008

Getting everyone in the same room for a BOG meeting monthly can be a chore. At Alpha Lambda, we have started using teleconferencing more so that Board members to not have to drive as much. The conference call service is called FreeConferenceCall.com and I highly recommend it. As the title says, it is a free service. The only downsides are the number is not toll free and we have had some issues in the past with Cingular cell phones working correctly. We have been using this service for a year and we're happy with it.

Eric Friese
BOG Chairman, Alpha Lambda

Forum category: Board of Governors / Chairman
Forum thread: Teleconferencing
